The Department of Medical Affairs provides comprehensive medical care to residents of the Golden Door residential homeless education program, and comprises a partnership with the Equal Access Clinic, run by University of Florida medical students, and a developing relationship with the Public Health and Health Professions Clinical Psychology program. The Department is currently seeking to solidify its mental health services and expand care to include Dental and Prescription opportunities for residents as well. In pursuit of those goals, the Department is working with the Department of University Relations to seek outreach partnerships with the relevant Colleges at the University. To work in our Physical Health Care program, please contact Physical Health Care Director and UF medical student Adam Mecca at Medical@citizensforsocialjustice.com. To work in our Mental Health Care program, please contact Mental Health Care Director and Clinical Psychology graduate student Shannon ssisco@phhp.ufl.edu.
The respective components of the Medical Affairs Department conduct separate Intake Evaluations in order to certify that residents are suitable for the program and ensure that they receive all the services necessary to meet their needs. Although we will not provide actual medical services at our site due to zoning restrictions, we will evaluate our residents and assess their needs for counseling or medical services so that they can be provided through partnerships with existing service locations, such as the Equal Access Clinic.
The Department of Medical Affairs works collaboratively with the Department of Community Relations to facilitate relationships with a variety community organizations and local medical practices that provide these services. In order to provide residents with all the care necessary to live, and sustain, healthy lifestyles, it also cooperates with the Department of Education to ensure that residents are receiving not only the medical care, but also the educational activities, necessary to lead balanced and healthy lifestyles.
