The Department of Education

The Department of Education is the foundation of the Golden Door residential education program, tasked with overseeing the development and implementation of an innovative curriculum.  The goal of the Department's efforts is to create a curriculum that produces a healthy home environment, allowing residents and mentors to work together in identifying resident needs and objectives. Rather than simply telling the residents what we think they need, we provide a collaborative model for goal discovery and achievement: we aim to serve as advocates for our residents, while also providing them with a sense of direction.  Our comprehensive curriculum includes Financial Literacy, Preventive Health and Nutrition, Arts Mentoring, Pet Therapy, Rights Literacy, Communication Skills, and a Goal Discovery workshop platform, in addition to subject-based tutoring for residents pursuing their GED or a vocational training program, both made available free of charge through the Adult Education program at Santa Fe Community College.
