Department of Community Relations

The Department of Community Relations is led by Director Jenna Winchester (jwinchester@ufl.edu).  Under her leadership, the Department works to spread the blessings of The Golden Door throughout the Gainesville community.  The Department is dedicated to sharing the Citizens for Social Justice vision with the community by marketing The Golden Door program to the community; networking with community organizations including businesses, churches, schools, and other non-profit organizations; and hosting fundraisers that generate revenue for the The Golden Door.  Through these activities, the Department develops business sponsorships, donor relationships, and networking and fundraising events that enrich the The Golden Door program.

The Department of Community Relations is currently developing a biannual Homeless Artwork Publication that will feature artwork and writings by local homeless individuals.  The published material is generated through The Golden Door Arts Mentoring program, in which Fine Arts students work with homeless individuals to create artwork, a cathartic process that allows expression of residents' personal experiences and struggles.  Please contact the Director to learn more about how to become involved with this publication.

The Department also develops regular fundraising events, including our annual Battle of the Bands.  The 2009 Battle of the Bands was held Thursday, February 5 at Fat Tuesday's, with Chris McCarty.  Please contact our Fundraising Committee for more information on these events and how to become involved.
